Earlier Pele congratulated Messi for equalling the record. He said, “Leo Messi, Congratulations on your historic record. But above all congratulations on your fantastic career at Barca”.

Messi was only 10 goals behind to reach this milestone before the start of 20/21 season. It took him 18 matches which is a bit late compared to his previous seasons because Messi has had a slow start this season and he's hardly finding a goal. Barcelona has changed many things this season including their playing formation which is one of the reasons behind leo's goal drought although he's picking up his form now.

Pele is considered as the greatest footballer in history of this beautiful game. He set so many records decades ago and only legendary players like Messi are now surpassing one of the records.
