This has become a hot topic especially between Messi and Ronaldo fans. As both sides are questioning their rival fans. Some people are also blaming FIFA as their nomination was unfair to some other players who deserve top 3 place. If we dig into Messi and Ronaldo's stats and performance a lot of questions will appear.
During 2019-20 season Ronaldo has played 46 matches for Juventus and scored 37 goals in 3 different competitions and won the Serie A title where he scored 31 goals. He was sensational throughout the season scoring some match winning goals and chasing the golden boot till the end. But most of the questions are surrounding Messi as he was trophyless last season. He played 44 matches and scored 31 goals in all competitions. However his performance didn't help Barcelona as they lost the league and also have been eliminated from Copa del rey. He ended the season with a humiliating defeat to Bayern Munich in the champions league quarterfinal.
Now
the question is ''Do they really deserve to be nominated as finalists?". Well, Comparing to other candidates who had a wonderful season with their
respective club Messi & Ronaldo do not deserve to be in top 3 this time. Furthermore, either Neymar or Mbappe deserve a
nomination as they took PSG to their first ever champions league final.
Another candidate who fans think should have been nominated is Liverpool
star Sadio Mane. Mane was a significant for Liverpool last season as
they won the league title after 30 years. Alongside him his teammate Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Alison Becker, Thiago and their domestic rival Kevin De Bruyne were in the 10 men's shortlist.
However
there is no debate on Robert Lewandowski. As the polish international has
taken himself to a different level in 2019-20 season scoring 55 goals in 47
appearances and completed quintuple with Bayern. He was also top scorer in all competitions.
Ronaldo and Messi are undoubtedly the 2 greatest players in history. But they're slowing down with time in fact Messi probably passed the worst season of his career and Ronaldo's side also had been knocked out earlier from the champions league. Considering this facts, it is clear that they don't deserve nominations as finalists for the fifa best player 2020. Fifa will reveal the winner on 17th December 2020 as Lewandowski is favorite to win this award for the very first time in his career.
